Passive Voice


A.    Defination Passive Voice
Passive voice is a grammatical construction ( Form grammatical ) Where the subject of the sentence is not perform the action , but the action accept or actionable ( receiver acts ) agents by lying ( perpetrators ) neither mentioned or not. The passive voice shows that the subject is receiving the action of the verb. See the explanation below:
(a)   Active: Ali mails the package.
(b)  Passive: The package is mailed by Ali
(a)   and (b) have the same meaning.
(c)   Ali    mails    the package
 S         V               O

          

The package is  mailed   by Ali
        S                     V        by-phrase

In (c) the object of an active sentence becomes the subject of a passive sentence.
(d)  Ali    mails    the package
 S         V               O
 

          

The package is  mailed   by Ali
        S                     V        by-phrase
(d) The subject of an active sentence is the object of by in the “by-phrase” in a passive sentence.

B.    Usage and Tense Forms Of Passive Voice.


S + Auxiliary Verb + Past Participle (V3)

Auxiliary Verb is helping verb. It helps to form a tense or an expression, hence the name. The auxiliaries combine with present or past participles or with infinitives to form the tense of ordinary verbs.
            Auxiliary singular (am, is, was, has been, had been, will be, will have been, is being, was being).
            Auxiliary plural (are, were, will be,  have been, had been, will have been, are being, were being).
